On Tuesday I joined a panel at the Media Production Show hosted by Sargent Disc. We talked about cutting costs and saving energy in film production. Jeremy from the Albert Consortium was there to update us on current projects and future plans for embedding sustainability into all media production. I attended Albert Carbon Literacy training last month. It’s a great day for anyone interested in sustainable film making, and free to attend.
Innovative lights are both sustainable and flexible
We know from experience that cutting costs and saving energy go hand in hand, but that’s not the only reason we recommend LED light fixtures. The dial-in colour options for Skypanel mean that you don’t need to use gels. That saves time on set and has a direct impact on the waste to landfill volume from the shoot. The Stella Pro series, have built in batteries. Our clients have used these lights up trees, down caves, underwater – anywhere where you couldn’t rig a traditional light safely!
Let’s learn from each other and share our experience
Birgit from Greenfilm Shooting gave us an overview of sustainable production in the European regions. There’s lots of new projects cutting cost and saving energy from big studios and individual productions across Europe. She’s pulled together all of these in the Cineo Regio Green Report 2017 which includes lots of great case studies.
Practical ways to trim the production budget
People often think that LED fixtures are a more expensive way to light. Of course I was keen to debunk this myth! These handy slides on Cutting Costs and Saving Energy might convince you, or your producer to take another look. If you want to come and have a look at our new kit, please do email or give us a call – we’d love to see you.
