Cinematographer Roger Deakins caused a stir when he admitted at a BSC event that advances in digital meant that he may never shoot another film on celluloid. He announce that  new James Bond he is shooting with Sam Mendes later this year will be shot digitally.

In an industry that’s both nostalgic for past glory and hungry for new technology that’s a brave thing to say. American DP John Bailey sees how both could co-exist and worries that the ‘lighting in a bottle’ captured on set can’t be recreated in post. Digital is the green option but if it’s the only one what does that mean for filmmakers?
